Business News WA Success and Leadership Breakfast

Jack Gregson and Richardson St colleague Nicolle Fleming from Belltree Corporate spent the morning at Crown Resorts Perth to hear from Elizabeth Gaines.

The talk covered Elizabeth’s new Chair role at Waalitj Marawar / West Coast Eagles as well as her vast experience across many sectors and major companies, key takeaways included:

1️⃣ Backing yourself – A key piece of advice she often gives, especially to those experiencing imposter syndrome, is to remind yourself that yes, you absolutely can. Believe in yourself, dig deep, and most importantly, step forward.

2️⃣ Board vs. Management – When serving on boards, it’s crucial to maintain a clear distinction between governance and operations. Board members should provide oversight while allowing management to handle day-to-day responsibilities – without overstepping.

3️⃣ Commodity insights – Elizabeth discussed Fortescue, the current iron ore market, and the importance of being a low-cost producer in times of volatility. She noted that China remains on track to produce 1 billion tonnes of crude steel, with strong market conditions persisting. Green iron and achieving Net Zero continue to be major Fortescue priorities.
